The Group Technical Manager will lead the company’s technical management function across the fleet, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all vessels. This senior leadership role involves oversight of technical superintendents, maintenance strategies, dry-docking, and the implementation of new technologies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Group Technical Department, providing guidance to Fleet Superintendents and shore-based technical teams.
- Ensure vessels are maintained to the highest technical and safety standards, in compliance with international conventions, class requirements, and company policies.
- Oversee planned maintenance systems (PMS) and monitor vessel performance metrics.
- Plan, budget, and supervise dry-dockings, retrofits, and major repairs across the fleet.
- Drive continuous improvement in fuel efficiency, environmental performance, and lifecycle asset management.
- Keep up to date with technical developments, regulatory changes (IMO, IACS, Flag State), and industry best practices.
- Responsible for technical budgets, cost control, and capital expenditure proposals.
- Foster a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and technical innovation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency (Motor or Steam) or equivalent maritime engineering degree.
- Proven track record in senior technical management within a ship-owning or ship management company.
- Strong experience with dry-docking, repairs, and retrofits.
- In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations and classification society requirements.
- Excellent leadership skills and experience managing multi-national technical teams.
- Commercial awareness and budget management experience.
- Proficiency in PMS and marine technical management software.
