JOB TITLE: Naval Architect
DEPARTMENT: Projects DIVISION: North Star
LOCATION: Aberdeen or Hamburg HOURS: 37.5
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
To work as part of the Special Projects Team with the view of being involved in the design, production of drawings linked to new constructions, the repair of vessels in operation, modifications to vessels in line with North stars Operational Strategy and Client requirements.
Working with our Design SMEs inputting to:
Vessel Design.
Vessel modifications.
New Technology considerations (lowest abatement cost) linked to efficient operations and North Stars decarbonization strategy.
Plan to detail and accommodate retrofit of any system found necessary to accommodate performance enhancements driven by , Client request, Climatic commitments – Regulation.
Work with the Environmental Officer and other supporting functions to support the compilation of sustainability reports document submittals.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
KEY WORK AREAS:
Assessing project requirements and researching feasibility of new technology.
Engage with New Construction Teams onshore and onsite, supporting the project’s needs.
Engage within the tender process for client awards, construction award, input to project budgets, timescales and specifications as required within other functions and North Star clients.
Produce using AutoCAD and other software suites detailed drawings as requested by North Star North Star Clients, Maintain Key relationships within Design partner organizations.
Review – Input – Develop test procedures, including computer modelling and scale models Interpreting and analyzing of data and test results.
Working with the Supply Chain manager, Head of Special Projects, Technical Managers input to the selection of equipment, implementation of systems.
Identify solutions in support of technical / Operational challenges and inputting to vessel repairs
Writing reports and documentation as required and dictated by Projects and Management system
Giving presentations in support of Operational, Technical and Commercial needs.
Undertaking relevant research linked to the adoption of Technology, alternative fuels and North Stars Decarbonization Strategy
Working effectively with the Special Projects function and Environmental SMEs
Providing technical advice
Answering queries from clients.
Ensuring adherence to appropriate health and safety legislation/standards

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:
Degree in relevant subject i.e., Naval Architecture
Membership of Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA)
Relevant shipyard/design office work experience
